Perovion DCBP POP-50 is a white paste organic peroxide formulation containing 50% of Di(2,4-dichlorobenzoyl)peroxide (DCBP) dispersed in silicone oil. As a diacyl peroxide, Perovion DCBP POP-50 is designed for the low-temperature crosslinking of silicone rubber compounds at approximately 90°C, and is particularly suited to continuous hot air vulcanization (HAV) and infrared vulcanization processes where crosslinking proceeds without external pressure. It produces silicone vulcanizates with high mechanical strength and good optical transparency, and is recommended at dosage levels of 1.1–2.3% relative to the silicone rubber compound.
Key Features
- Low-Temperature Crosslinking at 90°C: Perovion DCBP POP-50 activates at a typical crosslinking temperature of approximately 90°C, significantly lower than dialkyl peroxides used in silicone rubber applications. This low activation temperature enables crosslinking of silicone rubber profiles and extrudates in continuous hot air tunnels or infrared ovens without requiring external compression or mold pressure, reducing capital and tooling requirements for certain silicone processing operations.
- Pressure-Free Vulcanization Capability: A key advantage of Perovion DCBP POP-50 is that silicone rubber compounds crosslinked with this product can be vulcanized without external pressure using hot air or infrared radiation. This enables the manufacture of continuous profiles, extruded cords, sponge rubber, and other open-form silicone articles in a single-pass HAV or IR oven line, without the tooling and cycle time constraints of compression or transfer molding.
- Silicone Oil Paste for Easy Incorporation: The 50% active DCBP is supplied in a silicone oil carrier as a smooth, homogeneous white paste. The silicone oil matrix is chemically compatible with silicone rubber gum, facilitating clean and uniform blending of the crosslinker into the compound on a two-roll mill or in an internal mixer without carrier contamination or incompatibility with the silicone base polymer system.
- Good Scorch Safety at Processing Temperatures: Perovion DCBP POP-50 maintains acceptable scorch safety at 65°C, with a rheometer ts2 exceeding 20 minutes under standard test conditions. This processing window allows mixing, extrusion, and pre-forming of silicone rubber compounds at typical compound temperature levels without premature activation, supporting consistent dimensional and surface quality in extruded profiles and sheet prior to vulcanization.
- High Transparency Silicone Vulcanizates: Silicone rubber crosslinked with Perovion DCBP POP-50 can achieve good optical transparency in the cured article, which is advantageous for applications where visual appearance, light transmission, or aesthetic quality of the silicone product is important. This characteristic makes it suitable for transparent silicone profiles, sealing strips, and molded components where clarity is a formulation requirement.
Typical Applications
Perovion DCBP POP-50 is incorporated into silicone rubber compounds at 1.1–2.3% dosage levels during two-roll mill or internal mixer compounding. The compound is then extruded into the desired profile, cord, or sheet form and passed through a continuous HAV oven or infrared curing system, where activation at temperatures above 90°C initiates crosslinking throughout the silicone matrix. This continuous pressure-free vulcanization process is well-suited to high-volume production of extruded silicone profiles and cords, and avoids the part-by-part cycle times associated with molded production methods.
End-use applications include continuous silicone rubber profiles and weatherstripping for construction glazing, curtain walls, and fenestration systems; silicone sponge rubber cord and sheet for sealing and cushioning in appliance and industrial equipment; transparent silicone rubber tubing and profiles for food processing, beverage dispensing, and medical device applications where optical clarity is required; flame-retardant and electrically insulating silicone rubber jacketing for wire and cable; and HAV-cured silicone rubber articles for automotive underhood sealing, gaskets, and thermal management components.
