Perovion BIBP S14-40

Granular BIBP formulation at 40% active content for rubber and polyolefin crosslinking with reduced dust handling

Perovion BIBP S14-40 is a granular organic peroxide formulation containing 40% of Di(tert-butylperoxyisopropyl)benzene (BIBP) dispersed on an inert carrier system. The granular physical form distinguishes Perovion BIBP S14-40 from powder-based BIBP grades by offering reduced dust generation during weighing, handling, and transfer, along with improved flowability for automated dosing systems. As a bifunctional aromatic peroxide, Perovion BIBP S14-40 delivers excellent scorch safety up to 135°C and is used for the crosslinking of EPDM, FKM, HNBR, POE, and specialty rubber compounds, as well as thermoplastic polyolefins, with typical cure at 175°C.

Key Features

  • Granular Form for Reduced Dust and Improved Handling: Perovion BIBP S14-40 is supplied as free-flowing granules in which 40% active BIBP is uniformly distributed on an inert carrier. The granular format produces significantly less airborne dust than fine powders during weighing, conveying, and blending operations, improving workplace air quality and supporting compliance with occupational hygiene requirements in rubber compounding facilities. Granule flowability also supports consistent metering in automated feeding and dosing systems.
  • Excellent Scorch Safety up to 135°C: Rubber compounds prepared with Perovion BIBP S14-40 exhibit excellent scorch safety, with a rheometer ts2 exceeding 20 minutes at 135°C under standard test conditions. This wide processing window enables mixing, extrusion, and calendering operations at elevated temperatures without risk of premature crosslinking, maintaining compound plasticity and dimensional stability throughout pre-forming and downstream processing operations.
  • One-Step Mixing Capability Under Certain Conditions: Perovion BIBP S14-40 supports one-step incorporation into rubber compounds under appropriate compounding conditions, allowing the peroxide to be added alongside other ingredients in a single mixing cycle. This capability can reduce the number of processing passes and cycle time compared to multi-stage addition sequences, with potential benefits for throughput and batch-to-batch reproducibility.
  • Bifunctional BIBP for Efficient, Durable Crosslink Networks: The bifunctional BIBP molecule generates two reactive radical centers per molecule upon thermal decomposition at the 175°C cure temperature, promoting dense and well-distributed crosslink network formation in rubber matrices. Vulcanizates produced with Perovion BIBP S14-40 demonstrate good compression set resistance, resistance to heat aging, and retained tensile and elastic properties under sustained thermal stress, supporting service in demanding sealing and structural elastomer applications.
  • Broad Regional Availability Across Multiple Markets: Perovion BIBP S14-40 is available across Africa, Asia, Asia Pacific, China, Europe, India, Middle East, and Oceania, supporting supply chain reliability for rubber compounders and elastomer processors operating across diverse geographic markets. This global availability, combined with the handling advantages of the granular form, makes it a practical choice for multi-site manufacturing operations.

Typical Applications

Perovion BIBP S14-40 is incorporated into rubber compounds on open mills or in internal mixers, where the granular form disperses readily into the elastomer matrix without agglomeration or uneven peroxide distribution. Thermal activation at approximately 175°C produces thermally stable vulcanizates with controlled crosslink density and minimal reversion through the bifunctional BIBP radical mechanism. The peroxide cure system avoids the discoloration, odor, and bloom associated with sulfur vulcanization, making Perovion BIBP S14-40 suitable for compounds where a clean, sulfur-free cure profile is required across a range of processing temperatures and cure cycle configurations.

End-use applications include EPDM sealing profiles, roofing membranes, and automotive weatherstripping; FKM and HNBR seals, O-rings, and diaphragms for oil, fuel, and aggressive chemical service; POE elastomer crosslinking for foam, film, and flexible sheet; specialty rubber compounds for construction, industrial equipment, and appliance components requiring thermal stability and dimensional integrity; and thermoplastic polyolefin crosslinking for wire and cable insulation, pipe, and film. The reduced-dust granular format is particularly well-suited for high-volume production environments and facilities with enclosed or automated compound preparation systems.
