Perovion BIBP F14

High-purity flake bifunctional peroxide for rubber crosslinking, XLPE cables, and polyolefin modification

Perovion BIBP F14 is a high-purity flake-form organic peroxide based on Di(tert-butylperoxyisopropyl)benzene (BIBP) at ≥98.0% active content. As a bifunctional aromatic peroxide, Perovion BIBP F14 generates two reactive radical sites per molecule upon thermal decomposition, making it well-suited for the crosslinking of a broad range of elastomers and polyolefins including EPDM, silicone rubber, FKM, HNBR, polyethylene, and POE, as well as for XLPE power and energy cable applications. The pure flake form delivers a high active oxygen content of ≥9.26%, and under certain conditions one-step mixing into rubber compounds is possible.

Key Features

  • Pure Flake Form at ≥98.0% Active Content: Perovion BIBP F14 is supplied as slightly yellow flakes with an assay of ≥98.0% and an active oxygen content of ≥9.26%. As a pure peroxide with no carrier or diluent, it delivers the maximum available radical output per unit mass, allowing formulators to use low dosage levels while achieving the target crosslink density in rubber and polymer compounds.
  • Excellent Scorch Safety up to 135°C: Rubber compounds containing Perovion BIBP F14 exhibit excellent scorch safety, with a rheometer ts2 exceeding 20 minutes at 135°C under standard test conditions. This broad processing stability window supports mixing, extrusion, and pre-forming operations at elevated temperatures without risk of premature cure, enabling consistent compound quality throughout manufacturing workflows.
  • One-Step Mixing Capability: Under certain compounding conditions, Perovion BIBP F14 supports one-step incorporation into rubber compounds, combining the addition of the crosslinker with other compound components in a single mixing pass. This capability can reduce cycle time, minimize processing steps, and lower the risk of inter-stage variability in batch production operations.
  • Bifunctional Aromatic Structure for Efficient Crosslinking: The aromatic BIBP structure provides two peroxide groups symmetrically positioned on a benzene ring, yielding a bifunctional radical source upon decomposition that promotes dense and well-distributed crosslink networks in both rubber and thermoplastic matrices. Vulcanizates produced with Perovion BIBP F14 show good compression set resistance, heat aging stability, and long-term mechanical property retention under demanding service conditions.
  • XLPE Power Cable and Polymer Modification Applications: Perovion BIBP F14 is qualified for use in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation compounds for medium- and high-voltage power and energy cables, and is also used for controlled-rheology degradation of polypropylene (CR-PP) in the melt and for modification of recycled polypropylene to adjust melt flow index. This range of end markets makes it a versatile peroxide for polymer processors across multiple industry segments.

Typical Applications

Perovion BIBP F14 functions as a crosslinking agent in rubber compounding and polyolefin processing. Thermal activation at approximately 175°C — with a rheometer t90 of around 12 minutes — produces thermally stable vulcanizates with controlled crosslink density and minimal reversion. The peroxide crosslinking mechanism delivers sulfur-free vulcanizates free of discoloration, blooming, and residual odor, which is advantageous in applications requiring color stability, clean combustion, or reduced outgassing in service. The flake form is compatible with open-mill and internal mixer compounding for both rubber and thermoplastic processing operations.

End-use applications include EPDM automotive weatherstripping, roofing membranes, and HVAC sealing profiles; FKM and HNBR seals and gaskets for oil, fuel, and chemical media resistance; silicone rubber compounds for high-temperature service in automotive, appliance, and electronics; polyethylene crosslinking for XLPE medium- and high-voltage power cable insulation and semiconductor screening; POE elastomer crosslinking for foam and sheet; controlled-rheology polypropylene grades for high melt-flow fiber, film, and injection molding applications; and modification of recycled polypropylene to specified melt flow targets in circular economy compounding operations.
