Addivion RA 55 is a semi-permanent, non-silicone mold release agent based on a moisture-cured, solvent-based release polymer, formulated in a light alkylate naphtha solvent carrier for composite manufacturing and precision industrial molding applications. Applied as a thin wipe-on coating, Addivion RA 55 chemically bonds to the mold surface to form a dry, micro-thin release film that remains stable at temperatures exceeding most molding processes.
This enables multiple part releases per application cycle without silicone transfer, chromate contamination, or mold surface fouling. Addivion RA 55 is designed for demanding composite tooling applications requiring consistent, clean release across extended production runs. It is widely used in aerospace composite fabrication, fiberglass reinforced plastic manufacturing, wind energy blade production, automotive structural components, and marine composite tooling.
Addivion RA 55 Overview
Addivion RA 55 is a non-migratory, semi-permanent release system that chemically bonds to the mold surface rather than simply depositing a wax-like film. As the light alkylate naphtha solvent carrier evaporates, the proprietary resin cures at room temperature to a micro-thin, non-transferring film with high thermal stability. This makes Addivion RA 55 well suited to release-critical processes where any transfer of release agent onto the part surface would interfere with downstream bonding, painting, or finishing operations.
Initial mold preparation requires multiple sealing coats to build up an adequate release layer, and maintenance coats are applied between production cycles to restore release performance without requiring full mold strip-down. Addivion RA 55 is compatible with epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester, phenolic, and bismaleimide thermoset resin systems and can be applied to aluminum, steel, nickel shell, and composite mold tools at application temperatures of approximately 20-60°C.
Key Features
- Semi-Permanent, Non-Migratory Release System: Addivion RA 55 forms a durable, chemically bonded release film that persists across multiple molding cycles after an initial sealing preparation sequence, reducing the frequency of mold preparation interventions and lowering release agent consumption per part produced compared with sacrificial wax or film-based release systems.
- Non-Silicone Formulation: Free of silicone, eliminating the risk of silicone transfer onto composite part surfaces that can interfere with downstream painting, bonding, or secondary finishing operations.
- High Thermal Stability: The cured release film remains stable at temperatures up to approximately 400°C, supporting demanding high-temperature cure cycles used in aerospace and advanced composite manufacturing.
- Fast Drying, Reduced Odor: Formulated for fast solvent evaporation and reduced odor compared with conventional naphtha-based release agents, supporting faster mold turnaround.
- Non-CFC, Non-Contaminating Transfer: Contains no chlorofluorocarbons and produces no contaminating transfer or mold build-up, supporting consistent part quality across production runs.
Typical Applications
Addivion RA 55 is used where a non-transferring, high-temperature-stable release is required across multiple production cycles. It is applied for the release of epoxies, polyester resins, thermoplastics, adhesives, and rotationally molded plastics, and is particularly valued in aerospace composite tooling, fiberglass reinforced plastic manufacturing, wind energy blade production, automotive structural components, and marine composite tooling where release agent transfer to the part surface cannot be tolerated.

Storage Recommendations
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated area away from heat sources, open flames, and direct sunlight.
- Keep containers tightly sealed when not in use — Addivion RA 55 is moisture sensitive and will begin to cure on exposure to atmospheric moisture.
- Optimal storage temperature: 8°C to 21°C. Storage below 8°C or above 28°C can adversely affect product properties.
- The naphtha solvent carrier is flammable. Storage must comply with applicable flammable liquid storage regulations, away from oxidizing agents and combustible materials.
- Do not return unused product to the original container, as material removed from containers may become contaminated with atmospheric moisture during use.
Packaging & Transport
- Standard Packaging: Non-returnable pails and drums, available in pint, gallon, and 5-gallon pail sizes
- Net Weight: Subject to packaging size selected
- Transport Classification: Flammable liquid based on the naphtha solvent carrier; specific UN number and packing group are assigned per the product Safety Data Sheet and destination transport regulations
Addivion RA 55: Safety & Handling
Addivion RA 55 should be handled in accordance with applicable safety procedures for flammable, moisture-sensitive solvent-based products. Users are advised to review the Safety Data Sheet prior to handling and to implement appropriate personal protective equipment and engineering controls as specified therein. Addivion RA 55 should not be used in enclosed spaces without mechanical ventilation, and all solvent vapors must be ventilated from closed mold cavities before the mold is closed.
Addivion RA 55 must be kept away from oxidizing materials during storage and handling. Containers should be grounded during transfer operations to prevent static discharge. Spills should be contained using non-combustible absorbent material and disposed of in accordance with local regulations for flammable solvent waste. In case of skin or eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical attention if irritation persists. Safety Data Sheet and compliant labeling documentation are available upon request.
