Amivion PAM-650-200

Medium-to-high molecular weight polyamide resin epoxy curing agent (amine value ~200 mgKOH/g) for flexible anticorrosion coatings, marine systems, waterproofing membranes, and adhesives.

Amivion PAM-650-200 is a medium-to-high molecular weight polyamide resin epoxy curing agent produced by condensation of dimer fatty acids with polyethylenepolyamines, with an amine value of approximately 200 mgKOH/g. The lower amine value of Amivion PAM-650-200 compared to higher-amine-value polyamide grades reflects a higher molecular weight and a greater proportion of flexible fatty acid segments per reactive nitrogen, resulting in longer pot life, a slower development of cure, and markedly higher flexibility in the cured epoxy film. Amivion PAM-650-200 is used in two-component epoxy formulations where maximum film flexibility, excellent adhesion across diverse substrates, and tolerance for extended working time are the primary performance requirements. Typical uses include flexible anticorrosion coatings, marine maintenance paints, waterproofing membranes, and adhesive applications on substrates subject to movement or thermal cycling.

Key Features

  • High Film Flexibility and Elongation: Amivion PAM-650-200 produces cured epoxy films with significantly higher elongation at break and resistance to cracking compared to low-molecular-weight amine or high-amine-value polyamide curing agents. The high proportion of flexible dimer fatty acid segments in the polymer backbone contributes to a toughened cross-linked network suited to substrates subject to thermal cycling, mechanical vibration, or settlement movement.
  • Extended Pot Life: The lower reactivity associated with the higher molecular weight and reduced amine group density of Amivion PAM-650-200 provides an extended pot life at a given application temperature compared to lower molecular weight polyamide or amine adduct hardeners. Longer pot life is important in large-area coating operations, complex adhesive bonding assemblies, and thick-film application scenarios where extended working time before gel is required.
  • Excellent Multi-Substrate Adhesion: Amivion PAM-650-200 provides strong adhesion to steel, concrete, wood, and non-ferrous metals. The combination of reactive amine groups and long-chain fatty acid segments in the polyamide backbone contributes to effective substrate wetting and adhesion development, particularly on porous or complex surfaces. This broad adhesion profile makes the product suitable for maintenance and repair applications across diverse substrate types.
  • Good Resistance to Humidity During Cure: Higher molecular weight polyamide curing agents generally show reduced blush sensitivity under humid curing conditions compared to low molecular weight aliphatic amines. Amivion PAM-650-200 supports reliable film formation in environments with elevated relative humidity, which is practically important in marine, coastal, and outdoor construction applications where humidity control is not feasible.
  • Broad Compatibility with Epoxy Resins: Amivion PAM-650-200 is compatible with standard bisphenol A and bisphenol F liquid epoxy resins and tolerates a range of reactive diluents and modifiers. This compatibility supports its use across a variety of solvent-borne and high-solids two-component epoxy coating and adhesive formulations without requiring specialized resin selection.

Typical Applications

Amivion PAM-650-200 is used as the hardener in flexible two-component epoxy systems for protective coating, waterproofing, and adhesive applications. Key uses include flexible anticorrosion topcoats and maintenance coatings for steel structures, marine vessels, and offshore installations; epoxy-based waterproofing membranes for concrete roofs, bridges, and tunnels where substrate movement and crack bridging capability are required; and flexible adhesive systems for bonding materials subject to differential thermal expansion or vibration. The extended pot life of Amivion PAM-650-200 is particularly valued in formulations applied to large surfaces or assembled in complex fixtures.

Additional applications include wood sealer and impregnation systems for timber protection and consolidation; epoxy mastic maintenance coatings for aged or marginally prepared steel and concrete substrates; flexible floor coating systems for industrial environments subject to thermal shock or substrate movement; and epoxy putties and repair compounds for flexible crack filling and substrate restoration. Amivion PAM-650-200 is also evaluated in combination with higher-amine-value polyamides such as Amivion PAM-650-500 to adjust pot life, flexibility, and cross-link density in tailored two-component formulations.
