Amivion ALA-80

Modified aliphatic amine epoxy curing agent for ambient-temperature cure in industrial protective coatings, floor systems, adhesives, and civil engineering applications.

Amivion ALA-80 is a modified aliphatic amine epoxy curing agent formulated for ambient-temperature cure of bisphenol A and bisphenol F epoxy resin systems. Based on aliphatic polyamine chemistry, Amivion ALA-80 delivers reactive amine functionality combined with the processing improvements characteristic of adduct and modified amine formulations: reduced blush susceptibility, lower vapor pressure, improved compatibility with epoxy resins, and a more controlled exotherm compared to neat aliphatic amines. Amivion ALA-80 is suited to industrial protective coatings, civil engineering applications, adhesives, and flooring systems where fast ambient cure, robust chemical resistance, and cost-effective performance are required.

Key Features

  • Ambient Temperature Cure: Amivion ALA-80 provides effective curing of standard epoxy resin systems at room temperature without external heat application. This ambient cure capability supports use in on-site construction, maintenance painting, and industrial flooring applications where post-cure baking is not practical or economically viable.
  • Reduced Blush and Improved Surface Quality: The modified amine chemistry of Amivion ALA-80 reduces the tendency for amine blush—surface contamination caused by migration of amine and reaction with atmospheric CO₂—which is a common issue with unmodified aliphatic amines. This results in improved inter-coat adhesion and surface appearance in multi-coat systems applied under humid conditions.
  • Good Chemical Resistance: Epoxy networks cured with Amivion ALA-80 demonstrate resistance to water, salt solutions, dilute acids, dilute alkalis, and aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents. This chemical resistance profile supports application in industrial floor coatings, secondary containment linings, and protective coatings for structures in chemically aggressive environments.
  • Controlled Exotherm and Processing Safety: The adduct modification in Amivion ALA-80 moderates the exothermic heat of reaction compared to unmodified aliphatic diamines, reducing the risk of overheating in thick-film applications and large mixed volumes. This improves processing safety and allows use in thicker coating films and larger encapsulation pours without significant risk of thermal degradation.
  • Mechanical Strength and Hardness: Cured epoxy systems formulated with Amivion ALA-80 develop good compressive and tensile strength, hardness, and adhesion to steel and concrete substrates. These mechanical properties support use in structural adhesives, repair mortars, and industrial floor systems that require load-bearing performance in service.

Typical Applications

Amivion ALA-80 is used as the hardener component in two-part epoxy systems for industrial coatings, civil engineering applications, and adhesives. Key uses include anticorrosion primers and intermediate coats for steel and concrete structures; industrial epoxy floor coatings for manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and chemical plants; solvent-free and high-solids epoxy coatings for tank linings and secondary containment; and structural epoxy adhesives for bonding metal, concrete, and composite substrates. Its ambient cure profile and good compatibility with standard liquid epoxy resins make Amivion ALA-80 a practical choice across a broad range of protective and structural applications.

Additional applications include potting and encapsulation compounds for electrical and electronic components requiring good dielectric properties and chemical resistance; civil engineering repair mortars and injection grouts for crack repair and substrate consolidation; adhesive anchors and fastening systems for construction hardware; and epoxy coating systems for concrete protection in water treatment facilities and food processing environments. Amivion ALA-80 is evaluated in both solvent-borne and solvent-free epoxy formulations across these application areas.
