Perovion TMCH L29

Organic peroxide initiator for thermoset composites, polymer production, and acrylics applications

Perovion TMCH L29 is a high-concentration organic peroxide initiator based on 1,1-Di(tert-butylperoxy)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane dissolved in isododecane at 90% active content. It generates free radicals upon thermal decomposition, making it suitable for elevated-temperature curing of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins, as well as for radical-initiated polymerization of a broad range of industrial monomers. The product addresses the needs of thermoset composite manufacturers, polymer producers, and acrylics processors who require a reliable and versatile high-temperature initiator.

Key Features

  • High Active Content at 90%: Perovion TMCH L29 contains 88.0–90.0% of the active peroxide species in isododecane solution. This concentration level allows formulators to use precise dosage quantities while maintaining consistent radical output across production batches, supporting process repeatability in both continuous and batch manufacturing environments.
  • Versatile Initiator Across Multiple Segments: The product functions effectively as both a curing agent for thermoset composite resins and a polymerization initiator for vinyl and acrylic monomers. It is applicable across BMC, SMC, TMC, prepreg, and pultrusion composite processes, as well as LDPE production, polystyrene manufacture, and acrylic and optical monomer polymerization, providing broad compatibility with established industrial processes.
  • Stability in Pigmented and Filled Systems: Perovion TMCH L29 exhibits stability in the presence of pigments, including carbon black, without adverse effects on cure reactivity or product quality. This characteristic is particularly relevant for composite manufacturers working with colored BMC and SMC compounds, where peroxide-pigment interaction can otherwise affect shelf life and cure profiles.
  • Excellent Catalyzed Shelf Life in BMC and SMC: When incorporated into BMC and SMC formulations with standard catalysts, Perovion TMCH L29 supports extended pre-moulding shelf life. This property allows compound manufacturers and moulding operations to maintain flexibility in production scheduling while keeping catalyzed material within specification during storage prior to pressing.
  • Suitable for Elevated-Temperature Cure Cycles: Perovion TMCH L29 is designed for processes that apply heat during curing, including hot-press moulding and continuous pultrusion. Its decomposition kinetics at elevated temperatures support controlled radical generation, allowing engineers to design cure cycles that achieve target mechanical properties within defined cycle times.

Typical Applications

Perovion TMCH L29 is widely used in the thermoset composites industry as a curing initiator for unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resin systems processed at elevated temperatures. In hot-press moulding operations, the product initiates crosslinking of the resin matrix within SMC, BMC, and TMC charges, producing structural composite components used in automotive, electrical, and construction applications. In pultrusion, Perovion TMCH L29 is incorporated into resin bath formulations to enable continuous fibre-reinforced profile production with consistent throughput.

In polymer production, Perovion TMCH L29 serves as a radical initiator for the (co)polymerization of ethylene to produce low-density polyethylene (LDPE), styrene-based polymers, acrylonitrile-containing copolymers, and acrylic or methacrylic polymers. It is also used in the polymerization of diethylene glycol bis(allyl carbonate), a monomer widely used in the optical lens industry. For acrylics producers, Perovion TMCH L29 supports the polymerization of acrylate and methacrylate systems under elevated temperature conditions, including cast sheet and continuous cell polymerization processes.
