Epovion BPA-SOL 90

Solvent-based bisphenol-A epoxy resin for anticorrosive and industrial coating applications.

Epovion BPA-SOL 90 is a 75% xylene solution of solid bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether epoxy resin, formulated for use in anticorrosive coating production. Once cured with a polyamide or polyamine hardener, Epovion BPA-SOL 90 delivers good physical properties and chemical resistance in the finished film.

Epovion BPA-SOL 90 Overview

Epovion BPA-SOL 90 is prepared by dissolving a higher-EEW solid bisphenol-A epoxy resin in xylene at a fixed 75% resin solids content, giving formulators a ready-to-use liquid resin solution without the need for on-site dissolution of solid flake. The higher epoxide equivalent weight of the parent solid resin carries through into the solution, giving Epovion BPA-SOL 90 the crosslink density and adhesion benefits of an advanced bisphenol-A resin in a directly pourable liquid form.

Because the resin arrives pre-dissolved at controlled viscosity, it removes a processing step from anticorrosive coating manufacture and reduces batch-to-batch variability compared with dissolving solid resin flake in-house.

Key Features

  • 75% xylene solution: Epovion BPA-SOL 90 is a bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether resin supplied at 75% non-volatile content in xylene.
  • Higher epoxide equivalent weight: The resin carries an EEW of 450-500 g/eq, supporting strong crosslink density once cured.
  • Ready-to-use liquid form: Pre-dissolved supply eliminates the need for on-site solid resin dissolution.
  • Compatible with standard curing agents: The resin cures well with polyamide and polyamine hardeners.
  • Low color: A Gardner color of 1.0 max supports light-colored, aesthetically clean coating systems.

Typical Applications

Epovion BPA-SOL 90 is primarily used in anticorrosive coating production, where it is blended with polyamide or polyamine curing agents, pigments, and fillers to form protective films for steel structures and industrial equipment. Its pre-dissolved liquid form also supports industrial protective coatings and general-purpose epoxy coating formulations that require rapid batch turnaround.

Beyond anticorrosive coatings, the resin is suitable for spray, brush, and roller application methods across a range of solvent-based epoxy coating systems. For applications requiring a lower-viscosity, lower-EEW solution grade, formulators may wish to evaluate Epovion BPA-SOL 13 alongside this grade.

Solution Chemistry & Anticorrosive Coating Performance

Epovion BPA-SOL 90 combines the higher molecular weight of an advanced bisphenol-A epoxy resin with the processing convenience of a solvent solution: the underlying resin carries the same 450-500 g/eq epoxide equivalent weight range associated with high-crosslink-density solid grades, while the 75% xylene solution keeps viscosity in the 8,000-15,000 cps range, workable for standard mixing and application equipment. This combination allows anticorrosive coating formulators to achieve the film density and chemical resistance benefits of a higher-EEW resin without the added process step of dissolving solid flake themselves.

Because the flash point of Epovion BPA-SOL 90 is relatively low at 28°C due to its xylene content, formulators should observe standard solvent-handling precautions during storage, transfer, and application, including adequate ventilation and control of ignition sources. Once cured with a polyamide or polyamine hardener, the resulting film benefits from the non-volatile matter content of 74-76%, supporting good build and coverage in a single application.

Storage Recommendations

  • Store in the original, tightly sealed container, protected from moisture and heat.
  • Recommended storage: room temperature, away from ignition sources given the low flash point.
  • Shelf life: Up to 12 months in the original, unopened packaging when stored under recommended conditions.
  • Keep containers sealed between uses to minimize solvent evaporation and viscosity drift.

Documentation & Compliance

Each shipment of the product is supported by standard quality and compliance documentation to help customers manage incoming inspection, formulation approval, and downstream regulatory reporting.

  • Certificate of Analysis (COA): Provided per batch
  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS): Mandatory prior to handling
  • Labels: Prepared in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Industrial and professional use only

Formulation Guidance

Epovion BPA-SOL 90 is typically formulated with a polyamide or polyamine curing agent at a ratio determined by the hardener’s amine value, along with pigments, fillers, and additives selected for the target anticorrosive coating system. Because the resin arrives at a fixed 75% solids content, formulators can adjust application viscosity by further dilution with xylene or other aromatic solvent, or by adjusting pigment volume concentration in the final formulation.

For applications requiring the higher-EEW solid form for direct blending into powder or high-solids formulations, formulators may wish to evaluate Epovion SOL-S 90, the parent solid resin from which this solution grade is derived.
